Until now, no definitive pathological marker existed for heat stroke deaths. Autopsy reports typically cited dehydration or haemorrhage in organs such as the brain, liver, or kidneys. The AIIMS-Patna study now establishes that rupture of the pre-optic area in the brain is a key pathological finding in heat stroke death.
